Self-care Saturday: Guest Blogger

Hello, shifters! Today, we have the privilege of having a guest blogger and fellow shifter, Tiffany Lester. Thank you for your post on self-care, Tiffany!

Often, we forget how important self-care is for our well-being. Finding “me time” is another story. We all live different lives and some of us are married, single, working more than one job and may have a family to support. In 2018 I realized from all the changing factors in my life, I needed to make a CHANGE. A change that put my mental well being first and most important. It was difficult at first, but as they say it takes 21 days to make an action form into a habit. I started off taking 10 minutes to journal every morning of what I am grateful for in order to see the silver linings in life despite the chaos and darkness around me. This was followed by a night routine of journaling 10 minutes before bed of the positive highlights of the day and speaking into existence what I wanted and needed in life. Let’s fast forward to today about activities I do to help my sanity.

Body

For my body, I am an avid gym goer. I attend a local gym at 4:45 am-5:30 am. Now this may not be for you, but I find it more of a challenge going in the evening after work stressors. Also, I try eating as clean as I can 70% of the week by meal prepping for 3 days at a time.

Mind

For my mind listening to meditations music helps me connect with being present and aware of how I currently feel, to feel grounded. On the flip side motivational videos ignite sparks in my soul as remembrance to keep going forward no matter the obstacles. Two of my favorite YouTube channels are Positive Magazine Meditation (meditation) and Healthy Mind (motivation). Be sure to check them out and leave a comment of what you think.

Spirit

For my spirit, I read daily devotionals, scriptures, read 30 minutes a day and an affirmation in the morning while sitting at my classroom desk. I arrive at work 30-45 minutes earlier than needed to have time to center myself for the day. With what I’ve learned I recite it and keep it in my heart to remember throughout the day.

So yes, it has taken time to create my Body, Mind, Spirit daily routine but the journey has been well worth it. I’m more conscious of my energy, how I make others feel, and how to have healthy boundaries. I know what energy and thoughts I give is what comes back in return.

As I get older, I realize each day brings new opportunities for growth. Every year equals 365 days of opportunity. You only have one life to live, why not start taking care of “you” today?
